Here is a wonderful painting in the original frame from the 1940/50s by Sylvia Carewe. Her work is in the collection of the Whitney Museum. The painting is called "Mother & Child". It was apparently donated to the Artist's Equity Fund sometime in the 1950s.
There is a yellow card attached to the back of the frame that reads: "will the purchaser please drop me a note so I can keep track of who has this painting, thank you. Sylvia Carewe 544 East 86 the street, NYC."
There have been some old repairs to this piece and there are small areas of in-painting. The canvas needs to be lined. The color is still vibrant and the original modernist frame is spectacular. The frame measure 27 inches by 31 inches. The canvas measures 16 inches by 19 inches.
